Afternoon Projects

October 1, 2016 at 4:44 pm (Art, painting) (, , , , )

I had some coffee this morning and then was itching to do something productive, specifically something art-related. I ended up doing almost 3 full pieces (acrylics on 8×10″ canvas). I used a couple YouTube tutorials for the first two to get in the mood for the style I wanted to play with and then did the third as an original based on a photo I took in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Niagara Falls Painting

September 27, 2016 at 1:27 pm (Art, painting) (, , , )

I recently finished an 8″x11″ piece of the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. It’s done in acrylic paint on canvas. My first finished piece of this size and the first use of my new easel. I don’t think the colours really look great in this photo, but it was just taken quickly using my phone in non-ideal lighting.

Salt and Pepper

August 20, 2016 at 5:09 pm (Art, painting) (, , )

I recently cleared out some of the stuff I was working on that was taking most of my attention. I wanted to get back into painting but wanted something small and quick to work on. This piece was done on 6″ by 6″ acrylic paper based on a photo I took.

Painting: Roughly Autumn

June 2, 2016 at 10:34 am (Art, painting) (, , , , )

Here’s one of my paintings from last month. I used an existing painting to get a better idea for subject matter. It’s acrylic paint on a 10″ x 10″ canvas.

Abstract Pear Still life

May 3, 2016 at 10:31 am (Art, painting) (, , , )

Here’s a painting I did last night (considering giving it as a Mother’s Day gift). Acrylic paint on a 5×8″ Masonite board. I’m not sure how well it came out in the photo, but I used a spatter technique to get some texture on the background and pull some of that reddish colour onto the pear.

First draft of Iron Man painting

April 17, 2016 at 10:53 pm (Art, painting) (, , , )

I got around to doing a quick draft of a painting I aim to do in the future (due to an agreement). The goal was to pick a scene from a Marvel movie and paint it, so I picked Iron Man. This is my first draft to see if I could get a decent approximation of the colours I’d need for the scene. It’s painted on a 7″x9″ canvas board.

Niagara Falls painting

April 14, 2016 at 9:10 am (Art, painting) (, , , )

This was my first attempt with an actual canvas (previous attempts were on canvas paper or Masonite board). I’ll double check the exact size, but I think it was 5×7

My second attempt at painting the same teapot. I used a Masonite panel as a support for the first time.
